Notorious for its festival - a pioneer in the country since 1971 - Vilar de Mouros enchants with its tranquillity and communion with the surrounding nature. Here we can visit and appreciate the Azenhas and its river beach, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Castro and the Medieval Bridge over the River Coura.
But the town's main attraction is undoubtedly a music festival that brings together tens of thousands of people every year, dubbed the Portuguese "Woodstock". After some tribulations that almost led to its extinction, the Festival is alive and kicking.
Vilar de Mouros dates back to the 9th century but has been inhabited since prehistoric times (as evidenced by the remains of Monte da Cavada). Over the centuries it has modernised, of course, enriching its ethnographic heritage with farmhouses, granaries, mills and watermills, which have helped to make the village a pristine rural attraction that blends in with the modernism that its festival and river beach have imposed due to the strong tourist influx.
An infectious festival through the streets of Caminha. Various forms of expression - from Fine Arts to Music - energise the region and revitalise heritage, both intangible and historical, uniting the public around art and culture.
